For Your Listening Wellness

Exhibition Design, Poster Design, Print Design, Laser Cutting

Music can lessen the debilitating effects of anxiety and depression. Research shows that music can have a positive effect on brain chemicals that are linked to feelings of pleasure, such as dopamine. It also shows that music has a beneficial effect on the brain chemical oxytocin, the so-called ‘love hormone.’ Music can, quite literally, lift one’s spirits. Listening to music, humming, or singing along, perhaps, or reading the lyrics, or just taking it in, can help one navigate difficult thoughts or feelings, ever reminding us that we needn’t suffer in isolation. Even a dark song can brighten one’s mood. For Your Listening Wellness is an immersive experience of the healing power of music.

This project is based on the theme of music wellness. Music and the community around it has always been important to me, and I aimed to show this idea in an abstract way.

The Installation

I broke down the exhibition into 3 parts: posters, takeaways, and the main attraction —the installation. The installation was made up of 22 handmade “CDs” with lyrics laser cut into them. These lyrics are from different songs that have personally helped me. I included both uplifting and dispiriting to show the process of healing and music wellness as a whole.

Posters & Takeaways

The posters were created to support the installation, having a general these of music and community. They were very abstract and most did not even have any text.

The purpose of the ticket was so visitors had a keepsake of the exhibition to take with them, much like concert ticket stubs. The tickets contained a QR code to a playlist containing all the songs that influenced this project.
